PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN FILLING AND PACKING THE BUNKER.
TRACTOR ROLLOVERS AND TIPOVERS CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.
|
- ONLY EXPERIENCED OPERATORS SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON THE FEED PACK.
- FOLLOW SAFETY PRACTICES AS OUTLINED IN THE TRACTOR OPERATOR'S MANUAL.
- ONLY ONE TRACTOR AT A TIME SHOULD BE ON THE SILAGE PACK.
- ALWAYS BACK UP ON THE PACK TO AVOID TIPOVERS.
- PACK EVENLY SIDE TO SIDE TO AVOID SOFT SPOTS IN THE PACK.
- SPREAD THE FEED IN 6" LAYERS AND AVOID DRIVING OVER SOFT PILES.
- ALWAYS DRIVE FORWARD OFF THE PACK TO AVOID TIPOVERS.
- NEVER FILL THE BUNKER ABOVE WALL HEIGHT.
- DO NOT OPERATE THE TRACTOR ON THE PACK WHEN TIRED, HANDICAPPED
BY SICKNESS, OR DURING EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS.
- WHEN FEEDING FROM THE BUNKER, NEVER UNDERMINE
THE FACE, OR THE PILE COULD COLLAPSE ON THE OPERATOR.
- NEVER PACK THE FEED HIGHER THAN THE UNLOADING BUCKET CAN EASILY REACH.
|
By packing the silage in 6" layers, or less, you not only make the packing safer,
but you also can increase the density of the silage pack. If you pack in 12" layers,
the shrink in your bunker will be increased. Shrink adds up to spoilage and loss of
feed nutrients.
For more information, contact your local County Extension Agent, or the supplier
of your bunker system.
Remember to follow these and other safety practices on your farm, in order to
have the safest possible harvest season.
